Classic Rock Award

The former Traffic man wins the inaugural Musicians' Union Award

For the first time, the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour has teamed up with the Musicians' Union to create a unique award that gives its 30,000+ members the opportunity to honour one of their peers for their contribution and dedication to music.

The shortlist included Don Airey, Bill Bruford, Phil Manzanera and Mike Rutherford but Winwood came out on top.

Steve says: "I'm very honoured to be the recipient of this year's Classic Rock Musicians' Union Maestro Award.  I've been a member of the MU for the majority of my professional career, spanning some 40-plus years now, I can safely say that even though the industry may change, it's good to know that there is a constant throughout, supporting musicians and musicians rights. Once again thank you."

Classic Rock's Chris Ingham adds: "Steve Winwood has had an incredible career. From the Spencer Davis Group to Traffic to Blind Faith. Through collaborations with Jimi Hendrix, Dave Gilmour and George Harrison. To a hugely successful solo career. Steve Winwood is a true icon. In short, he is a musician's musician, and a worthy winner of this inaugural award."

The Classic Rock Roll Of Honour awards take place at the Roundhouse in London next Wednesday.
