UPDATE: Steve will be performing classic hits from his album 'Revolutions' in an exclusive show for Radio 2 at the BBC's Maida Vale Studios in London on Thursday, June 17th 2010, @ 20:00. Click here for tickets and more info from the BBC.
Island Records will release the definitive career retrospective of one of the all-time greats of the UK music scene on 7th June 2010. Entitled “Revolutions – The Very Best Of Steve Winwood”, it is a portrait of one of the most influential British musicians in rock history; a singer-songwriter, peerless vocalist, guitarist and keyboard player.
With tracklistings personally selected by Steve Winwood from his five decade career, “Revolutions: The Very Best Of Steve Winwood” will be available in two high quality formats: a single CD for the casual fan and a four CD deluxe box set including 60 page book for the connoisseur, with sleevenotes by writer Dylan Jones.
A child prodigy, Winwood first performed live on stage at the tender age of 8 in his father’s trad jazz band, and joined the Spencer Davis Group at 14. His stunning vocal style was compared to Ray Charles. He left Spencer Davis to form Traffic then later teamed up with Eric Clapton in Blind Faith at the tail-end of the Sixties. Arguably his biggest successes came with his solo work from the Seventies on.
In his teens Winwood played in pick-up bands for touring blues legends including Muddy Waters, BB King, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddley.
In a career lasting nearly 50 years he has sold over 50 million albums and several of his songs have become standards, notably ‘Gimme Some Lovin’ (memorably covered in The Blues Brothers film), ‘Keep On Running’, ‘Valerie’, ‘The Low Spark Of The High Heeled Boys’ and ‘Higher Love’.
He has been awarded multiple Grammy awards – for ‘Gimme Some Lovin’ and ‘Higher Love’ (a US no 1 in ’86)
In 2008 Rolling Stone ranked him no 33 in the 100 Best Singers Of All Time.
Throughout his career, Steve Winwood has remained an in-demand session player, and has contributed to landmark albums by a huge array of artists including Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Joe Cocker, Lou Reed, George Harrison, Toots & The Maytals, Marianne Faithfull, John Martyn, David Gilmour, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, James Brown, Etta James, Talk Talk, Paul Weller, and Christina Aguilera among many others.
Steve Winwood is currently preparing for a World Tour with Eric Clapton. UK shows will be: Birmingham NEC (May 18th), and two Wembley Arena shows (May 20, 21).

Is it a typo on CD4? It states "Hold On" instead of "Holding On". Thanks.
I am looking forward to hearing these albums actually.. CD's!!!
markp, Blind Faith debut in Hyde Park, June 1969 doesn't sound like "stuff". Blind faith debut in Hyde Park, June 1969 sounds like a state of enchantment. A rite of passage. Liquid gold. Hallowed summer holidays. Your first smooch.
Amazon information - release date June 7th. Blind Faith first concert Hyde Park June 7th - I was there - why do I remember this stuff? I can never remember where I put my car keys or where my passport is but ask me about my misspent (our wellspent) youth......................
Mark
Will this be available in vinyl? Always prefer this format. My copy of Nine Lives sounds superior than the CD and those who hear both also agree.
Per James Towler post on Facebook: "James Towler No need to worry so much Barry, there will be more to come over the next few months, You may have tracks in other kind of formats, but I can assure you that after months of searching for the master tapes which was not a easy job but rewarding by hearing them and transferring them at a resolution that was previously not possible, There are some hidden gems on this box set but you will have to wait till it's released to search them out." Very exciting, indeed! More to come.......
I'm looking forward to this box! Also a gift for friends. I don't know 32 better singers, for me he is the best...
Well, of course I already have this music in some form or other, but I will certainly buy the box anyway! Just to support the good work of my favourite musician!
And also it will be like a time travel..............
Looking forward to the concert in Malmo!!!
Great to hear Steve is doing another box set. I bought his last one, The finer things, and I will have this one the day it goes on sale !!! Keep up the good work Steve.
Thanks for clearing up what we can expect on the new box set. As I indicated in Drake's blog, I really am looking forward to this release. Good music only gets better with state of the art remastering. Good going.
